Family Tax Benefit Boost 2026 – Australians to Get $1,000

As living costs continue to rise, the Australian Government has announced a new cost-of-living measure: a one-off $1,000 top-up for families receiving the Family Tax Benefit (FTB). This payment will help families cover essential expenses like groceries, utilities, and childcare.

What Is the $1,000 FTB Top-Up?

The $1,000 top-up is an additional payment added to your usual Family Tax Benefit entitlement.

  • It’s tax-free and won’t affect your income tests for other Centrelink payments.
  • It will be paid automatically to eligible families along with their regular fortnightly FTB payment.

How to Get the $1,000 Payment:

Most eligible families don’t need to do anything — it’s automatic.

However, if you’re lodging a new claim or updating your details:

  • Log into myGov: Visit my.gov.au.
  • Go to Centrelink Services and select “Family Assistance.”
  • Choose Family Tax Benefit.
  • Click “Make a lump sum claim” or update your details for ongoing payments.
  • Review your family income, residency, and care details.
  • Submit your claim and save your confirmation.

Important: If you receive FTB as a lump sum at the end of the financial year, you must lodge your tax return or notify Services Australia of your income to keep your full entitlement.
